James Wayne Dewberry, 85, of Maben, Mississippi passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi. Wayne was born on April 10, 1940, in Maben, Mississippi to the late Milton and Virgie Reed Dewberry. He was a retired contractor and former Gideon who served faithfully until retirement. He enjoyed many mission trips, serving his community through helping with special projects and construction. He also enjoyed mowing the lawn, yard work, gardening, loved sports, working at his shop, enjoyed watching the wildlife at his favorite place -- home with his wife. Many who knew Mr. Wayne knew him also by his nickname, Moose. Mr. Dewberry is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Jo Ann Young Dewberry of Maben, Mississippi; daughter, Melody Dewberry (Wayne) Monts; son, Ashley (Bobbie) Dewberry; grandchildren, Ryan (Canaan) Dewberry, Mary Ashlyn Dewberry and James Monts; one great grandchild, Isaac Nathaniel Dewberry; one brother, Lloyd (Faye) Dewberry and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, Milton and Virgie Reed Dewberry and two brothers, Hoyt Dewberry and Harless Dewberry. Funeral Services for Mr. Wayne will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, February 20, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Mathiston, Mississippi. The family will receive friends and loved ones for a time of visitation on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at First Baptist Church in Mathiston. Interment will follow the services on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Rev. Will Livingston and Rev. Archie Goodwin will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Cain Adams, Brad Dewberry, Eddie Dewberry, Josh Palmer, Shane Reed and Mike Swindol. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Fuller, Ronnie Kolb, Shurl Shurden, Frankie Williamson and Wayne's coffee drinking buddies. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is honored to be entrusted with all arrangements for the Dewberry family.
