Michael “Mack” Alvin Halford, age 75, of Mathiston, Mississippi, passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, Mississippi.
Mack was born in Choctaw County, Mississippi, to the late William Alvin Halford and Ruby Joyce Smith Halford. He spent the majority of his life in Mathiston, where he worked as a contractor until his retirement. His work was not just a job, it was a ministry. Mack used his skills to bless countless lives, often answering calls at all hours to help those in need, especially widows. He was always willing to serve others and loved working with his hands alongside his kids and friends. His abilities in construction, plumbing, and electrical work were unmatched, and there was little he could not do.
From an early age Mack loved being outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports. As a young adult he spent many weekends playing church-league softball. Once his boys were old enough to throw a ball and wear a glove, he swapped to the role of baseball coach. Once he became a grandfather, he spent many hours and traveled many miles, watching his grandkids participate in various sports and activities.
He was a faithful member of Antioch Community Church in Choctaw County. Mack shared the love of Christ both locally and across the country by participating in construction mission trips, using his talents to make an eternal impact on others.
Mack is survived by his loving wife, Myra Fulgham Halford of Mathiston, Mississippi; his daughters, Connie (Derrick) Wilson of Hernando, Mississippi, and Jessica (Scott) Dixon of Eupora, Mississippi; his sons, Mitchell (Emily) Halford of Mantee, Mississippi, and Will (Bailey) Halford of Mathiston, Mississippi; one sister, Juanita Sutton of Mantee, Mississippi; and two brothers, Larry (Sandy) Halford, Sr. of White Pine, Tennessee, and Cloyd (Laura) Halford of Mathiston, Mississippi.
He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren: Lainey, Kyler, Sam, Cy, Mamie, Mari-Michael, Maggie, Troop, Ellie, Vivie, Mack, Ruby Scott, and Everett. If you ever spoke with Mack, you likely heard stories of his children’s and grandchildren’s determination, abilities, and accomplishments. These stories were often told and retold with great partiality, but they reflected the deep pride and love he had for his family.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents, William Alvin Halford and Ruby Joyce Smith Halford.
