Gregory Scott Curry, “Scott,” age 63, of Wichita, Kansas, died in a single car accident on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Born in Starkville, Mississippi, Scott was a resident of Louisville, Mississippi, through middle school, and then Eupora, Mississippi, graduating from Eupora High School in 1980. He then attended Mississippi State University graduating with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1986 and ultimately finished with an MBA from Webster (Military) University while in the USAF.
Scott received a pilot’s slot while in AFROTC at MSU, served in the U.S. Air Force for 14 years and then reached his 20-year full-time service retirement with the USAF Reserve unit in Warner Robbins. Early in his career, Scott deployed and served a long deployment tour in Desert Storm where he and his unit earned numerous commendations and medals. He also served in many other assignments and deployments around the world, some known to us, some not, and he received an extensive list of additional commendations and medals.
When Scott returned from the Desert Storm deployment, he and Patricia Ann (Patty) Shea were engaged and, following return from his next deployment, married in 1993. Michael Scott and Megan Shea were born in the next few years. Megan married Tim Foley, and they have shared with Scott the delights of his life in two granddaughters, Finley and Frankie. Scott was committed to his family and to defending our country; but it must be acknowledged that his family also sacrificed and served us selflessly in giving him the freedom to do so.
Following his military service and not being done with flying, Scott moved into the commercial aircraft industry as a systems/aircraft operational qualification pilot with Raytheon which became Hawker, then Hawker Beechcraft, then Beechcraft/Cessna, which ultimately became Textron, in Wichita, Kansas, where he worked at the time of his death.
While in Wichita, in his spare time, he enjoyed flying with his sailplane club fellow pilots, singing in the choir at Calvary United Methodist, lounging with his granddaughters and greyhounds, and drinking coffee with his friends most week-day mornings at Starbucks.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Shea Curry; their two children, Michael Scott Curry and Megan Shea Curry Foley; and Megan’s husband Tim. Scott had two granddaughters, Finley Shea and Frances (Frankie) Joy Foley. Scott also is survived by his mother, Patricia Hill Curry Shaw; his stepfather, Charles Russell Shaw, Jr; and his two brothers, James Hugh (Jay) Curry, Jr. and Patrick Hill Curry. Scott is preceded in death by his father James Hugh Curry.
